Karachi, (Staff Reporter) Halqa-e-Fikr-o-Nazar in collaboration with Pakistan America Cultural Center organized a prestigious ceremony in honor of Presidential Award recipient and former Adviser to the Consul General of Japan, Muhammad Azmat Ataka.
The ceremony was graced by former Federal Minister for Law, Justice, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs, Shahida Jamil, as the chief guest. The event brought together prominent intellectuals, writers, and social figures to celebrate Azmat Ataka’s remarkable contributions toward strengthening Pakistan–Japan relations.
The proceedings began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Assistant Commissioner West, Imran-ul-Haq, followed by a Naat presented by Professor Dr. Sajida Parveen and Almas Nayab.
In her welcome address, Chairperson Halqa-e-Fikr-o-Nazar, Shahida Khurshid, highlighted Azmat Ataka’s invaluable services in promoting friendship between Pakistan and Japan. She noted that he played a pivotal role in introducing Japan to Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. In recognition of his outstanding services, the Government of Pakistan conferred upon him the Presidential Award. She also paid tribute to him through her poetic verses.
Addressing the gathering, Muhammad Azmat Ataka congratulated Shahida Khurshid and her team for organizing a dignified and inspiring ceremony, stating that such events serve as a source of encouragement and motivation.
Chief guest Shahida Jamil paid rich tribute to Azmat Ataka, terming the Presidential Award a well-deserved recognition of his lifelong services. She also appreciated the organizers for arranging a graceful and meaningful event in honor of a distinguished personality.
Vice President Halqa-e-Fikr-o-Nazar, Professor Dr. Sajida Parveen, remarked that true to the meaning of his name “Azmat” (greatness), he has fulfilled every responsibility with excellence. She added that certain individuals are chosen for the service of humanity, and Azmat Ataka is among them.
President PACC, Makhdoom Riaz, thanked Shahida Khurshid for organizing the ceremony and described the evening as a tribute to an extraordinary individual.
Speakers including Saleem Mughal, Abdullah Feroz, Sohail P. Ahmed, Owais Adeeb Ansari, Wazahat Naseem, and Farhana Owais shared personal experiences and reflections on Azmat Ataka’s character, integrity, and dedication.
Wazahat Naseem highlighted his contribution to promoting Japanese language and Haiku poetry in Pakistan, noting that the tradition of the Urdu Haiku Mushaira was initiated through his efforts, and the successful holding of its 38th annual session reflects his commitment.
Owais Adeeb Ansari shed light on Azmat Ataka’s personal journey, mentioning that after arriving in Pakistan, he embraced Islam and adopted Pakistani culture wholeheartedly. He also married Asifa Ataka, niece of renowned scholar Abul Khair Kashfi.
Several distinguished guests from literary, academic, and social circles attended the ceremony.
At the conclusion of the event, Shahida Khurshid and the team of Halqa-e-Fikr-o-Nazar presented a commemorative shield and bouquet to Muhammad Azmat Ataka in recognition of his exceptional services.
