Karachi, (web Desk) The International Religious Freedom (IRF) Round Table Pakistan has welcomed the passage of the National Commission for Minorities Rights Bill 2025, describing it as a historic milestone for safeguarding the rights of religious minorities in line with Pakistan’s constitutional and international commitments. The legislation marks a significant transition from the “realization to the materialization” of minority rights, fulfilling the Supreme Court’s landmark judgment of June 19, 2014, and aligning Pakistan with key global human rights frameworks.
National Director Muhammad Kashif Mirza praised the establishment of a strengthened 30-member Commission with 33% mandatory female representation, calling it an inclusive structure reflective of Pakistan’s obligations under the UDHR and ICCPR. He noted that the independent Commission represents the “fruit of a decade-long struggle,” thanking civil society, lawyers, parliamentarians, and particularly the Supreme Court for ensuring that the body has the autonomy necessary to address systemic marginalization and advance genuine equality.
IRF RoundTable Pakistan Co-Chair Ms. Ali urged Parliament to enact the Bill swiftly while safeguarding the Commission’s independence from political interference. She emphasized that a strong and empowered Commission will reinforce Pakistan’s democratic institutions and enhance its international standing as a country committed to protecting the
rights of all its citizens.
