Karachi, (Zeeshan Hussain/Sports Reporter) Legendary cueists inaugurated the new Snooker Club at Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana in a lively ceremony. World champion Muhammad Asif, former world champion Muhammad Yousuf, Asian junior champion Hasnain Akhtar, and former national champion Asjad Iqbal participated in the event. The guests cut the ribbon to officially open the snooker hall and also played a few exhibition frames.
Speaking at the ceremony, Muhammad Yousuf praised the excellent sports facilities at Naya Nazimabad, calling the snooker club a valuable addition to Karachi’s sporting scene. He expressed hope that major competitions would soon be hosted there and that new talent would emerge from the venue. World champion Muhammad Asif said he was highly impressed by the modern sports infrastructure and added that such facilities would greatly benefit the younger generation.
Naya Nazimabad CEO Abdul Samad Habib said that the vision of turning the area into a “Sports City” was originally conceived by his father, Arif Habib, and is now taking shape. He announced that the Asghar Wali Memorial Snooker Tournament will soon be held in collaboration with the Pakistan Snooker Federation. The event was also addressed by Hasnain Akhtar, Asjad Iqbal, and Gymkhana President Syed Muhammad Talha, while officials including Sports Officer Hajra Nawab were present. The ceremony concluded with the cutting of a special snooker-themed cake.
