Murad Shah dismisses discussions on creation of new provinces

Karachi, (Staff Reporter) Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has categorically rejected all discussions regarding the creation of new provinces, stating that such talk holds no weight. He said, “The talk of new provinces—listen from one ear and let it pass out from the other. Except for Allah, no one has the power to divide Sindh.” The chief minister was speaking to the media at the Sindh Craft Festival held at Port Grand, where he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting Sindh’s traditional arts and craftsmanship.

Murad Ali Shah emphasized that the provincial government is focused on ensuring that Sindh’s cultural work and crafts receive the recognition they deserve. He reiterated that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has already rejected any proposal to alter the 18th Amendment or reduce Sindh’s share under the NFC Award, noting that these suggestions were also turned down under the proposed 27th Amendment. He said the PPP “knows how to turn dreams into reality,” highlighting the party’s development-oriented governance approach.

Responding to a question about the recent change of the Governor of Sindh, the chief minister clarified that neither he nor the provincial government had any involvement in the decision, as they are not consulted on gubernatorial appointments. He also spoke about his legal background, stating that he is the son of a lawyer and has spent significant time among legal experts. “If someone wants to present arguments, the courts are available for that,” he said, criticising those who attempt to bypass proper legal channels.

Addressing law-and-order concerns, Murad Ali Shah expressed frustration over small groups disrupting public life by repeatedly blocking roads. “Fifty to 150 people hold the entire city hostage,” he remarked, adding that the government would be compelled to take action in such cases. He further stated that the government had initially set an age limit for certain matters, but after court directives, a five-year relaxation was granted in compliance with judicial orders.
